4-Day Work Week has been one of most desired working models for the corporate sector for many years. Though the adoption has not been that fast and quick.
Anyways, with the passing times, the emerging new technologies, and virtual working models during the COVID pandemic, the working models started changing fast starting from the tech industry first with the home based virtual work.
Though it is understandable that the same 4-Day Work Week may not be fully applicable to many other industries, but I guess, still companies are making room to apply and experiment with it.
It is no secret that the traditional 9-5 work week can be quite draining.
By the time Friday evening rolls around, many of us are simply counting down the hours until we can check out and start to enjoy our weekend.
For some, this feeling of being “burnt out” carries over into Saturday and Sunday, leaving little time to truly relax and recharge.
But what if there was a way to eliminate that Sunday Evening Scary feeling altogether? By entering the 4-day work week…
In recent years, a number of companies have made the switch to shorter work weeks or 4-Day Work Week in an effort to boost productivity and employee satisfaction.
From Google to Microsoft, big names in the tech industry are leading the change in making the 4-day work week a reality.
Let’s look at some other advantages.
When workers are given more time to rest and recharge, they can come back to work feeling refreshed and ready to work again.
This increased level of energy and focus can lead to higher levels of productivity.
A shorter 4-Day Work Week can lead to a better work-life balance, as employees will have more time to pursue their hobbies and interests outside of work.
This can lead to happier and more fulfilled employees.
Because workers will have more time to relax, their stress levels will be reduced.
This can lead to improved mental and physical health, as well as increased levels of productivity.
Employees who are given the opportunity to have a better work-life balance are typically more engaged in their work.
This means that they are more likely to be productive and to stay with the company for a longer period.
When employees are happy and have a good work-life balance, they are less likely to leave the company.
This can lead to increased retention rates and lower turnover.
If you are considering making the switch to a 4-day work week for your company, there are a few things to keep in mind.
First, it’s important to communicate the change to your employees and to get their feedback.
Second, you’ll need to consider how to rearrange your work schedule to make the most of the shorter week.
And thirdly, you’ll need to make sure that you have the right policies and procedures in place to make the transition smooth and successful.
If you’re looking for a way to improve productivity and to create a better work-life balance for your employees, a 4-day work week might be the answer.
During the COVID pandemic most of the tech companies had been operating virtually from the home. After that, companies started resuming their corporate lives.
However, Amazon recently asked the staff to start with the 3-Day Work Week.
Staff is obligated to come to office for only 3 days a week and the rest of the days they can operate virtually from anywhere.
CEO Andy Jassy announced the policy in a memo to staff. The change will go into effect May 1, 2023.
Jassy said in his memo that Amazon made its decision after observing what worked during the pandemic. He shared that the senior leadership team watched how staff performed. He observed that the employees tended to be more engaged in person and collaborate more easily.
Jassy said.
“I’m also optimistic that this shift will provide a boost for the thousands of businesses located around our urban headquarter locations in the Puget Sound, Virginia, Nashville, and the dozens of cities around the world where our employees go to the office.”
Last month, Starbucks also told its corporate employees to work from the office three days a week.
Disney is also asking employees to plan for 4-Day Work Week from March 2023.
In the present modern times, where the most of the world is now connected with fast internet access and most of the computing is shifting to Cloud, it is even becoming easier to adopt the 4-Day Work Week for all types of companies.
The wish list of the past is fast becoming a true reality now.
